Project Description
The Metropolitan is a 45 unit, 163 bed private dorm at the corner of Durant Avenue and Ellsworth Street, one block from the UC Campus. The project is structured as a long-term ground lease between Hudson McDonald and Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, the property owner.
The Met includes four floors of dorm housing constructed over a 59 space public parking garage. A new community facility that serves Saint Mark’s is also included in the development plan.
The Met provides an alternative to UC housing in a more intimate building at an excellent location. Residents enjoy private rooms in two, three and four bedroom suites. All units are leased fully furnished, and rent includes all utilities, making the building a turn-key solution to new and transfer students seeking a single room in Berkeley.
The project provides Saint Mark’s with a reliable and growing income stream that will allow it to continue to serve the Berkeley community.
